Varying the line
Lines can evoke an emotional response in the viewer. Circular lines are associated with motion; vertical lines are thought to be more vigorous than horizontal lines, which imply tranquillity. Lines can also suggest recession. According to Ruskin, curves are more beautiful than straight lines and a good curve continually changes direction as it proceeds.
